I first saw a Prairie Queen quilt in Mary Schafer, American Quilt Maker, The University of Michigan Press, Gwen Marston, 2004. Using a pink background amplifies the striking zig zag setting. Vintage fabrics were used within the pieced blocks. This quilt also showcases a vintage use of fabric, that is: two borders are of one fabric, the other two borders another. Using what one has when not enough of one color is available. This same use of fabric is carried out in the single narrow binding with miter corners. Machine quilted in fan pattern. This quilt drapes beautifully. 86” X 97 1/2”.
